When no natural ventilation facilities are required, the Encon Smoke Flap ventilation system may be installed. This unit offers a large opening area, a high degree of insulation and, in the closed position, is air and water tight. The domes, which can be single, double or four in number, hinge on stainless steel pins in nylon bearings, and are opened with nitrogen filled gas springs. The fusing mechanism can either be a soldered link or a quartzoid bulb. The unit is usually suitable for mounting on flat roofs and has a manual external testing mechanism for routine Fire Authority use.
