Encon Air Systems Limited was chosen to provide specialist extraction systems at the new facility within Derriford Hospital Plymouth.

The Plateau Project is a 12,000 square metre extension to the main Derriford building, which will provide increased cardiac facilities, a new general ICU (intensive care unit), a new medical library and research facilities.

We were asked to design, manufacture, supply, install, test and commission 12 separate ICU extraction systems complete with PVC Ductwork, Stainless Steel ‘Safe Change’ HEPA Filter units and Extraction Fans complete with Run & Stand-by motors and drives.

Special considerations had to be made when designing the systems for the Intensive Care Units such as the National Resource for Infection Control document reference title: HBN 4 Supplement 1 – Isolation Facilities in Acute Settings as well as HVCA Guidance notes: DW/TM2 Internal Cleanliness of New Ductwork Installations, DW154 Specification for Plastic Ductwork, DW 143 Pressure Testing of Ductwork Systems and the COSHH Regulations.
